Chris Martin, the frontman for Coldplay, is a Pisces, through and through. I had no idea of his birthday, until I watched a Sunday Profile of him on CBS this morning, and heard not only the tenor of his lilting English voice, but the unifying words that sprung from his soul.
He said how there’s no greater joy for him than to hear everyone singing together at his concerts. I instantly turned to my daughter and said, “Youngin’ that guy’s a Pisces.” You can only imagine how much I hate to be right when arguing with my teen rebel, but I had to bite the bullet and accept victory, after I googled his birthdate and learned he was born on March 2, 1977. A Pisces.
The ethereal blue eyes, the transcendent voice and the poetic lyrics of his music. “Every teardrop is a waterfall,” is not only lyrical, but so Neptunian as well, the ruling planet of Pisces.
Even the band’s original name, “Starfish,” echoes the call of this watery sign. Thank God they changed it to Coldplay, adhering to Chris’ Leo Moon, the very symbol of play.

Undoubtedly my favorite song of theirs–though I enjoy many–is his most popular: Viva La Vida. “I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing, Roman cavalry choirs are singing.” There’s just something about it that sounds so divinely inspired to me. It can only be Chris’ Mars and Neptune working so closely together in his astrological natal chart that sparks such a spiritual fervor in his music.
Poor Chris talks about his battle with insomnia, and again we must look to his powerful Pisces sun squaring his strongly aspected Neptune for the cause of it. Simply put, Chris receives his most powerful intuitive creativity at night, especially with his song-writing mercury at 0 degrees of Pisces, so who could blame him for not wanting to sleep through it? Perhaps if he became somewhat more of a nocturnal creature and slept during the day, he would not have a sleeping disorder at all. But with two oddly named, but adorable young kids to raise, he’s bound to be sleep-deprived, regardless.
Interestingly, Chris’ life path number in numerology is an 11–a Master number. According to Asthrotheme.com: “You feel that you are entrusted with a mission, with the certainty that no setback could endanger it.” And true to that definition, Chris said he feels like an underdog, having endured many attacks from critics, particularly a rather scathing one from a NY Times reviewer who once labeled Coldplay “insufferable.” Chris responds by comparing himself to Kung Fu Panda, weathering the attacks with equanimity and coming back even stronger.

Martins’ appeal crosses many Piscean boundaries and unifies fans of multiple generations. Both my daughter and I are counting the days for the release of Mylo Xloto, a story between two characters. Chris explains, “They fall in love and try to escape together, the songs following what happens.” This might very well be their best album yet, its themes of escape, harkening on yet another Piscean concept, while the love story touches on Chris’ North Node in Libra (sign of relationship), his destiny.
