And now, to wet your appetite, here\u2019s a taste of her writing, as she relates a very personal paranormal story about her grandmother:

\nMy grandfather was woken one night during the Second World War by my grandmother suddenly sitting up in bed beside him. She proceeded to talk with her brother William, who wasn\u2019t there of course, then went back to sleep. William was serving in the army. When the message arrived that he\u2019d been killed, my grandparents realized he died just about when Gran talked to him that night. He\u2019d come to say goodbye.

\nGranddad told me quite a few stories like that about Gran. I wish I remembered more of them. But I remember thinking she was such a fascinating person, and wishing I could be like her. I wanted to see a real ghost. I wanted to know things that no-one else could know, to do fun stuff and make people ask how. There again, if seeing a ghost means you have to lose someone you love, maybe I\u2019m happy not to.<\/p>\n
It wasn\u2019t just a dead brother who spoke to Gran though. Another story tells of when my Mum was pregnant with her first child. She lived a long bus-ride away from her parents and there weren\u2019t any phones. Due dates weren\u2019t as carefully calculated then either. But one morning Gran announced the baby was coming and set off for the bus\u2014in her carpet slippers according to the tale Granddad told. Gran arrived at my parents\u2019 house and shortly afterwards my older brother entered this world to join her\u2014I\u2019ve often wondered if he appeared in Gran\u2019s dreams the night before to say hello.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve never seen a ghost. When I\u2019ve heard strange voices in the night I\u2019ve always believed it was a dream or a story in my head. I didn\u2019t see my Dad after he died, though others have and know he\u2019s safe with God. They\u2019ve seen my uncles too, who weren\u2019t church-goers, and know they\u2019re in the same place. Perhaps the voices that tell stories in my head are enough for me, and perhaps when a character wakes up in my dreams and says Hello, that\u2019s my calling to write, page after page till the character says goodbye. I\u2019m happy enough with the visitations of my imagination, but I still think my Gran was pretty cool! <\/p>\n
