Kirkus Reviews: The Ascender is an inventive, funny, multi-layered adventure
Gloria Medina, New Dorp HS Librarian ~ “In The Ascender, Tracey Pacelli, author of TIME WARPED, has created Billy Magnusson, a twelve year old boy who is affected by “the wave,” a Mandela type effect which erases pieces of his past and inserts new details into his life, and the lives of those around him.
Blending scientific fact with fantasy, she creates a world where the two mysteriously and delightfully collide producing a mesmerizing, fun-filled novel. An enthralling read for teenagers and adults alike. I can hardly wait for the sequel!”
Bob Burden, comic book icon, ACE/EISNER Award winner ~ The Ascender is a wonderful and heartfelt sci-fi adventure that takes you into the depths of the human mind in the coming psyber world of the future, where an experimental parallel reality weapon creates the collateral effect of rearranging the memories of certain innocent bystanders.A brilliant and lovingly crafted parable for the future-world of the singularity, the coming techno-tyranny and psyber warfare.

The Ascender Synopsis:
A 12 yr old kid is repeatedly hit with an energy WAVE that erases pieces of his past and inserts new details into his life history. Needless to say, this upends his world and isolates him.
He’s the most popular kid in the room that no one can get close to.
A school fight gets him expelled and his family moves to Florida, where his parents enroll him in a strict new charter school. He joins the Ascension Club, a role-playing game club, where he meets a strange group of kids he can finally trust with his secret.
The head of a gov’t secret op is stalking him, and with an assist from his friends, he learns why he’s a person of interest. The answer involves a dangerous weapon that poses an impending threat to the world, unless he and his friends can stop it.

Author Kim Romaner:
A fun and sophisticated coming-of-age story, and as much far out science as a geek could ever want!
This is a young adult book, and I am certainly not a young adult, but I sure enjoyed reading it! The main character, although just a boy, is steady and complex, handling the beyond-belief things happening in his life with such aplomb. I want to be more like him! He’s my hero. All of the characters are so well written, and most are really likable…except the ones that are not so nice. (They know who they are.) As a woman of science myself, it was mind-blowing to read about scientific effects and devices I really knew little about, and the way Ms. Pacelli puts them together is super creative and mind blowing. This is a page turner with lots of twists and mystery. I’m writing this during the pandemic, and if you’re looking for something to read while homebound—or even if you’re in another time entirely—this will keep you well entertained. Enjoy!
Chanel MacColl, cocOchanel Blog ~ Tracey very kindly sent me a copy of her book a while back, as she recognized it was VERY apt with my blog. It was such a unique story, which I loved, the imagination just shone through! And very up my street. It’s being released at 2pm today and I would really recommend giving it a read!

I couldn’t put it down
I loved this book. The perfect balance of fantasy and science with the geky references. The characters were interesting and well developed. I got to the end and wanted to read more. I could spend a lot more time in this world.
