I nearly Weta my pants at the sight of the enormous creature recently found on Little Barrier Island in New Zealand, called the Weta.
Adorably named Mark Moffett, an insect enthusiast from Colorado, is credited with the find of what many consider to be the biggest insect in the world. The sight of this horribly scary creature has caused quite a stir in the twitterdom, forcing tweeps to express their revulsion in caps.
“One person on Twitter called the carrot-eating bug “THE STUFF OF NIGHTMARES.”
Remarkably, the cricket-like monster is the size of 3 mice and was found perched on the branch of a tree. Due to a lack of predators in the area, the Weta has enjoyed a lengthy lifespan allowing it to grow to full-size—and what a plus-size model it is!
Obviously concerned about its eyesight, it enjoys eating entire carrots and one can only wonder what’s up with that, Doc?

In other news…
Herbert Ross, an incredibly gifted artist and beloved relative passed away this morning at the ripe old age of 91. One of his pastels sold to the VP of the Metropolitan Museum of Art several years ago, and countless patrons have hung his beautiful works on their walls—including me!!!
My uncle led an exciting and rich life, hobnobbing with his good friend Zero Mostel. He also directed plays that once attracted the likes of Marlon Brando and he served his country in the army for twenty years! My uncle was a fashion designer, a gourmet chef and a teacher of cooking and painting. What I will always carry in my heart is his warm laughter and his incredibly supportive spirit, always encouraging me in my writing.
My own canvas has been made more colorful, just by knowing him.
Herbert Ross has always been an atheist, disbelieving in the paranormal. I can’t help but think that on the other side he’s now saying, “Well…I’ll be damned!”
Love and light to you, Uncle Herbie. You will be missed!!!
